Last week, I published my first ‘Five Minutes With…’ interview and I had a great response from fellow bloggers and readers. Everyone seemed to, not only absolutely love the idea, but also to be given the opportunity to meet someone new and exciting!

So, here I am with my second Interviewee. And it’s is the lovely Louise Joy from! She is a fashion, beauty and lifestyle blogger from Luton. Not only is she a talented blogger, but she’s also in the middle of writing her own novel! Pretty impressive eh?!

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your blog…

My name is Louise Joy and I blog over at Formidable Joy which, yes, is a play on my second name! I’ve been blogging for about five years now and it’s one of my proudest hobbies, especially as writing has always been my passion. As well as blogging, I’m writing my own novel on the side, I’m a travel writer for work and if I’m not blogging/working/writing my novel, I’m still usually working on some form of writing. I live in a town called Luton, not far from London, although I’m usually found mooching around the capital for a gig, blogging event or just something random and fun.

Whats your favourite thing about blogging?

My favourite part about blogging would have to be the community. Sometimes it can be a little tough looking through ‘perfect looking’ blogs because in some ways you end up comparing yourself to them. But on the other hand, it can be really inspiring. On top of that, the blogging community as a whole tends to be very supportive; it’s sometimes like an online friendship group. I think that’s why blogs work so well because it’s like reading an opinion from your friends. Which I suppose essentially it is! I’ve met quite a few good friends through blogging.

Why did you decide to start blogging?

I actually decided to start blogging when I had to create a print magazine for my dissertation at uni and I set up a blog to coincide with that. I’d been thinking about blogging for a while though as this was just when it was all kind of starting out, but it was because of uni that I finally took the plunge.

Whats been your greatest experience whilst blogging?

Probably reaching five years of blogging this January just gone! It just amazes me that I’ve managed to stick at it for so long. It’s certainly got a long way to go and is probably one of the smallest, lesser known blogs out there but hey, I’ve never given it up.

Do you have another job besides blogging?

Yes, I’m a travel writer/editorial assistant for a travel magazine aimed at Group Travellers. It’s super fun, I love going on little jaunts or day trips around the UK and essentially I get to write and/or review about all this type of stuff and get paid for it so that’s cool. I would like one day to be able to blog full time (if only so I can call my bed my office) but even if I was at that point where I could, I enjoy my job too much to give it up right now.

Do you have other commitments (i.e children)? If so, how do you find the time to manage both?

Just work, really, which will eventually require weekends away and things like that. But I’m still actually getting used to working normal full time days (I was in retail previously so that was odd hours) and have struggled to juggle both. I’ve finally managed to get into a routine now though which is where I tend to make a start on blog posts at the weekend and taking photos, then edit the posts on my lunch breaks at work. So I schedule a lot of posts in advance these days.

What are your hopes and dreams for your blog?

Although I whole heartedly agree that you shouldn’t blog just for the benefits or freebies, I can’t deny the fact that after five years of blogging, I’d like to get a little back! I don’t mean I want tons of freebies and stuff like that, but I would like to be at least considered for more opportunities and be on some company’s radar’s, to be that successful if that makes sense. I’d also like to branch out into Vlogging, but within the music side of things. I’d really like to set up a side project interviewing local bands. I studied Media Production at college and still have a huge interest in that side of the media, so it would be fun to do some more hands on stuff.

Who inspires you and why?

One of my biggest inspirations throughout my whole life has always been my sister; she’s so sophisticated, fun and stylish – and has all her shit together! But blogging wise I couldn’t specify one blog really as I like the different qualities in different blogs.

What does an average day involve for you?

I press my snooze button every ten minutes or so for an hour before I finally get up and go to work. On a day to day basis I work on news stories and the social media of our company, and do bits at a time for my bigger features. Lunchtimes I use to catch up on blogging, finish blog posts etc. I usually have a scroll through Bloglovin’, leave some comments or participate in some blogging threads. I’ll sometimes schedule sharing posts on social media. Evenings I either go to the gym, go to a fitness class or come straight home for dinner and relax! Weekends I usually sleep in on a Saturday then spend my days off going to gigs, shopping, Netflix binges etc. It varies.

Favourite place on earth and why?

If not my bed, then this small, windy beach in South Shields, near where I went to university. I haven’t been in years but I have fond memories there, from the old seafront mini theme park with the arcades, crazy golf and rides that looked ever so colourful against the evening sky. Or even just the carpark that I’d sit on and eat fish and chips whilst looking out over the beach and sea. It was always so peaceful.

Celebrity Crush & Why?

OH MY GOD THERE’S SO MANY. Firstly I’d say John O’Callaghan, the lead singer of my favourite band (if you google him, it’s NOT the bald DJ but instead the hot rocker), because he’s so good looking and a total sweetheart. But a celebrity you all may know? That’s still kinda tough but maybe Shiloh Fernandez who is an actor and former model. He’s super hot and once liked a couple of my Instagram photos after I followed him on there. Or Dougie Poynter, I’ve had a small crush on him since McFly first formed.

Your most strangest hobby/thing to do?

Not really a strange hobby, but I’m OBSESSED with zombies and I’m currently writing a chick-lit zombie novel that mixes romance with apocalypse. It’s not that odd, but it’s never been done before.

Guilty Pleasure?

Apart from being a little too obsessed with zombies, perhaps maybe my obsession with rock stars. I mean, I’m not a fangirl or anything ,but I’m totally in with half my favourite bands. My guilty pleasure therefore would probably be going that bit further when it comes to bands. I’ll happy travel all over the country to see them (and I once did).

Favourite place to shop for fashion and beauty?

I love anything from the highstreet. H&M is a favourite of mine (and not just because I used to work there!) and also Miss Selfridge. Online, I love ASOS.

You can find more on Louise Joy through her social media too;

Thank you so much Louise Joy for taking part in the ‘Five Minutes With…’ series! I’m a little jealous that you get to travel to so many beautiful places for your job and that you get to write about it. I’m also a little obsessed with Zombies too!

Check back next Monday for another ‘Five Minutes With…’.

And if Louise Joys Interview has inspired you at all in anyway then let me know!

Sincerely, Sophie x
